The monsoons are setting in and
the rains have arrived in the God’s own country, Kerala. Little did I realize
with the title of the book 'Rainy Days' that it doesn’t talk about the rains in this
country, but it sets the beginning of the book with rain at a cricket stadium.
The book is well written and has
interesting twists and turns. I was contemplating to complete the book in 2
journeys from Pune to Bangalore and vice versa, but after starting I could not
stop and completed it in 3 hours flat. The book keeps you on your toes to know
what will happen next. The language is good and is well thought. Sometimes I
felt, the melancholy is more abstract. More research could have been done in
terms of the cities, by knowing the cities traits, its culture and the surrounding
places to get the reader connected to the city.
As mentioned earlier, it starts
with the rain in the cricket stadium and it ends with rain in the outskirts of
a city. In between, the twists and turns about Raghav and Megha who are the
prime subjects in the book makes you to
continue reading without a stop. Raghav who meets Megha a complete stranger in
the cricket stadium, chases her when the rain spoils the play for a while.
Though after following her, his effort goes in vain, but the follow up
continues from thereafter and the journey begins.
The ending is perfect and may
seem sad but the perplexity that has caused Megha to take such a decision is noteworthy.
It may also seem selfish! After reading
the book I felt that the ending concept is similar to the one of the bollywood movie. But the storyline is nowhere near it !.
The book is written by SamarthPrakash is a dear friend of mine and is an excellent programmer by profession.
